Briones is rarely seen from the vantage point provided by a horse. Bella Oaks offers 2 rides that take you into Briones and 2 rides that take you down a beautifully shaded bridle path- time is the only thing that separates which ride you select.
5 – hour Bella Oaks Horse Adventure
To ride a horse is to ride the sky. ~ Author Unknown
This one of a kind experience begins with you getting acquainted with your horse while you assist in the grooming and tacking. A trail lesson will give you the skills necessary to control your trusty steed and stay in your saddle. Then mount-up for the adventure of a lifetime down a beautiful bridle path and onto one of 6,117 acres of trails through Briones Regional Park. With its rolling, grassy hills and secluded, shady canyons, Briones is a secret wilderness. On this adventure we will ride to the highest point in Briones from which you can see the ocean and all of the surrounding communities. The terrain gets steep at times and it adds to the adventure. Early in the day a light fog may add to the mystery and allure of the trail. On the trail you are likely to see black-tailed deer, red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures and possibly one of the more reclusive animals. A tasty box lunch will be provided for you along the way while you enjoy the beautiful landscape. Upon your return you will receive another snack and have the ability to un-tack & cool down your horse.
After the trek across the mountains guests will unwind with an exclusive and educational oil and wine tasting with author and producer, Tom Powers of Alhambra Valley Farms. Alhambra Valley Farms is a small, family-owned farm, located in the Northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area. It produces olive oil, cured olives, wine grapes, vegetables and fruit. The vineyards produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Viognier, Petit Sirah, Pinot Gris, and Syrah, with more varieties to come. www.AlhambraValley.com
Trail riding lessons are conducted in small groups of two to eight people, ensuring personalized attention. These lessons prepare you for the trail, covering the basics and advanced techniques of horse management during a 60 minute session. In this lesson you'll learn detailed safety techniques and Western style riding.
While lunch is included, it's recommended to bring a small snack and water. We suggest you wear sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, jeans, gloves, and sneakers or boots with a heel of one/quarter inch or more.
Bella Oaks instructors are experts, and the proprietors are native Briones Trail explorers. The facility is nestled under huge oak trees across from Briones. You will be surrounded by Bay, Oak, Eucalyptus trees and rolling hills. A gorgeous landscape if we do say so ourselves.
